I love reading book (comics and novels), watching movie,anime.
My favourite anime : gundam seed, basara, prince of tennis and get backers.
My current obssession: Reading books written by Julie Garwood.

Well, I had to look for images with a pretty high quality to begin with or at least I try to. Until I actually improve on vecotring skills, I avoid low quality and small images. As for the soft colours, it's really just playing around with the graphic program (in my case Adobe Photoshop). A lot of things I do is self taught by playing around with filters and other functions of the program. It doesn't hurt to try so see what you can produce ^_^
